This is a bread case made with Mishima-Kiri wood by skilled craftsmen of Aizu Kiri-Tansu. The traditional Kiri-tansu has been updated for modern times, retaining its classic appearance by using actual hardware used in traditional Kiri-tansu while rounding the corners for a more contemporary look.
The drawers open from the front and back, making it easy to use and place anywhere. It's suitable for storing not only bread and fruits, but also delicate items such as cameras.
Mishima-Kiri wood is mainly grown in Mishima-cho, Fukushima Prefecture. It is grown in suitable environments, resulting in a straight and glossy wood grain. It has excellent moisture permeability and insulation properties, maintaining a constant humidity and temperature throughout the year, making it ideal for storing moisture-sensitive foods and precision equipment.
In addition, Kiri wood is prevented from turning black even after long-term use because the tannin is extracted from the wood for about five years after being cut down, while being exposed to rain and snow. Therefore, domestic Kiri wood has excellent durability and can maintain its beauty even after prolonged use.
