Visit Japan in June?

Japan’s rainy season “Tsuyu” starts in early summer. It continuously rains for a month in most parts of Japan. It starts from the southernmost tip of Japan in Okinawa at the beginning of May and slowly moves north over the rest of Japan in June. Hokkaido, at Japan’s northern end, is barely affected by the rainy season. Tsuyu lasts until mid-July and the weather is unpredictable during that time.  There can be heavy rain and storms at any time however, there are some days that can pass without a single drop of rain. It’s very humid, uncomfortable, and easier for things to get moldy so visitors should take extra care with their belongings. Food should be kept properly refrigerated.

Positive aspect of Tsuyu

Hydrangeas look even more magnificent with the addition of a few raindrops. A lot of people visit Kamakura to see the hydrangeas and famous temples during the season. In addition, prices for accommodation and transportation tend to drop in this season.  Pick your best season to visit Japan!
