3 things to enjoy the cherry blossom season more!

Spring. After winter is over, the weather becomes warmer and more comfortable.

And cherry blossoms are synonymous with Japan! The best time to see cherry blossoms in full bloom is from the end of March to the beginning of April.

And the event that takes place all over Japan at this time of year is, yes, Hanami!🌸

If you haven't experienced it yet, I would like to share with you three things that make hanami so appealing!

First, let me briefly explain what hanami is.

Hanami is a cultural word for flower viewing, most specifically used during the cherry blossom season. During hanami, families and friend groups go to the popular cherry blossom viewing areas.

When you arrive at a park where cherry trees are in bloom, lay out a sheet under the cherry tree and take your place! This is probably the most important part of the process. After all, it is a battle to get the best view of the cherry blossoms. It is expected to be very crowded. Leave early in the morning to be ready for battle!

Where is the best place for Hanami🌸?

There are many parks throughout Japan where you can view cherry blossoms, but the most famous place is probably Ueno Park in Tokyo, where a "cherry blossom festival" is held when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Street Food is set up everywhere, and there are even portable toilets available. Along the path called "Sakura Street," about 800 cherry trees including Someiyoshino, Yamazakura, Kanzan, and Kanhizakura will be in full bloom. At night, these cherry trees are lighted up, creating a magical atmosphere! You will never be bored from morning till night.

You can even drink sake🍻!

One of the most enjoyable things about cherry blossom viewing is the delicious alcohol. In Japan, drinking in public places outdoors is permitted.

Drinking outside while chatting and laughing with friends and family in a picnic atmosphere must be exceptionally delicious. Be careful not to drink too much just because it's fun! It is just one element of enjoying Hanami to the fullest.

Bring your own food🍱!

Usually potluck style food is often brought in. You can serve what you bought as is, or you can bring something you made at home, which will be appreciated.

Lunch boxes are useful for such occasions!

At iimono, we have boxes that can be used in a variety of situations!

In Japan, there is a saying, "Dumplings are better than flowers. This is the same meaning as "Bread is better than the songs of birds." It seems to be universal that there is nothing better than good food 🍡.
